Power nap & how to train it
A simple tool, easy to learn. Giving you crucial advantage. Everybody knows it, it is a sagging day and you are on the ropes, too. Lay down to sleep or take a longer break is not possible – but a power nap can do! You can do a power nap just about anywhere (uh well, of course not behind the wheel!) and it will recharge your batteries within a couple of minutes.
Location, time and clock
Choose a quiet location where you can take a rest for 5 to max. 30 minutes. Important: Never more than 30 minutes of powernapping, otherwise you will fall into deep sleep. This will result in exactly the opposite, you will be even more tired as before! So set an alarm.
Mental programming
Humans are able to save things and conditions in their brain. If I would tell you: please think about spaghetti, this will be easy for you. You can also retreive smell and taste. And that is exactly the way to learn to programm yourself to do the powernapp. This is how you can overcome sleeplessness and tiredness. Send a signal to your subconscious a few minutes before you start the powernap (for example: tell yourself“ I like to take a nap in 10 minutes“). And if you enjoyed your powernap successfully, save this success in your mind, So next time you need a nap you will find it easier to get right into it.
Stop your thoughts
Most of us have trouble to stop our thoughts. Our brain just keeps on thinking. But this takes you into the circle of sleeplessness again. You see, while thinking our tongue gets tensed. This is because our thinking process activates the language center in our brain. And our tongue is connected with this center. Hint: Inhale 3 seconds through the nose into your belly, hold your breath for 3 seconds and then exhale 6 seconds through the mouth. This breathing technique helps you also through the day if you are tired.
Include noise
Especially at „powernapping“ you will have the problem not to be able to choose your sourrounding area. Therefore you need to learn how to deal with noise! Tell your mind again and again: „All noise around me will help me to get deeper in my balance and a restful sleep“. You can practise powernapping while sitting, laying and after a while of practising in standing position too. In the beginning the easiest position is laying down, obviously. Note: Set your mind to have a power nap in 10 minutes. Then start with the breathing technique with closed eyes in your choosen position. Then take a powernap. If it is not happening the first few times, don´t worry, that is normal. Like with everything it takes a while of practising. Be happy about 10 minutes inner relaxing and the power you will gain from it.
